Well friends, I am not good at quitting. I can’t do it. I am also not good at giving myself a break. (I’m trying to get better at that one.) It became pretty apparent to me about halfway through the One Room Challenge that in this crazy phase of life we are in at the moment, there was no way I was going to be able to get everything I wanted to done in this space in the six week timeline while remaining sane (a hard pill to swallow after I crushed it with our Dining Room in the Spring ORC.) And so I did it. I gave myself a break. Instead of stressing over timelines and budget and all the things, I gave myself permission to not worry. To finish only what I could without stressing, to be present with my babies, to focus on my growing business, and to just let this space come together slowly. But like I said: I can’t quit. So here I am showing up. I don’t have a FULL reveal for you. I haven’t tackled the many DIY projects I had planned or hung curtains or purchased that expensive chair I want in the corner of the room. But I do have a beautiful space that has started taking shape over the last 6 weeks, and I already love it so much.
Ok, so let’s take a look back at where we started, shall we?
The Before
Not terrible by any means, but it was filled with all of the smaller-scale stuff we brought over with us from our townhouse when we moved, and we were ready for an update that fit this space better. I wanted to create a cozy retreat that felt warm and welcoming. (And besides, our guest room is in desperate need of a larger bed and some furniture, so our old stuff will be a perfect fit in there!)
The Design
I spent so much time designing this space, planning out every detail, and sourcing every item. I knew I had it right when it felt like a space we couldn’t wait to retreat to at the end of the day! Here’s where I ultimately landed:
And here is where we are today!
The “In Progress”
I started with that beautiful landscape art print from Collection Prints. It is Shades of White II and I had it printed and framed in this long landscape size from Frame it Easy.
Then we added in this gorgeous one-of-a-kind vintage rug from Revival. It is such a show stopper and I absolutely love the rich warmth and character it brings to the space. (You can take 10% off any rug with my code CAMERON10)
I chose this wingback upholstered headboard with a channel detail. I love the scale of it, and the way that gray color compliments the other neutral tones in the space. We replaced our smaller scale nightstands with these beautiful cabinets that I have been swooning over for at least a year now. I love them so much, and I think the size, the clean black, and that gorgeous arched detail on the doors make such an impact. I was a little concerned at first about not having any drawers to store bedside essentials, but I actually realized that I don’t have all that many and the rest of my old nightstand drawers were filled with un-necessary junk. I added a small basket into each cabinet to store any essentials, and the book I am reading can double as decor in the cabinet! I think they work really well as nightstands and I love that I get to style the cabinets now too! These nightstands were another top contender. Aren’t they gorgeous too?
We still need to add the curtains on the big wall of windows, but we replaced our old white blinds with these absolutely gorgeous Modern Woven Wood Shades from Select Blinds, and they have made such a world of difference already! I chose the color Baton Rouge and I love the subtle warmth this beautiful wood tone brings to the space. They are perfect and I cannot say enough good things about Select Blinds!
We also took the cozy factor up a few notches with all new bedding and we are now sleeping in a cloud thanks to the world’s softest sheets from Cozy Earth. (You can use my code STEPHANIE_50 for 50% off!)
That cozy Ultimate Faux Fur Throw from Sleep Number is also making all of my wintery bedroom dreams come true and I now refuse to sleep without it.
Remember that to-do list I laid out back at the beginning? Let’s see what we were able to check off and what is still left to do:
window treatments(Halfway done – still need to layer with curtains)bednightstandsnew rugnew beddinglarge landscape art- chair
- floor lamp
- floor mirror
- wall art
- tree
- New ceiling fan
- Add DIY casing to all windows
- Install wall treatment (picture frame moulding throughout)
- Paint doors & replace door hardware
- Makeover existing dresser
- Makeover my Grandmother’s cedar chest for the foot of the bed
- NEW FLOORS! (hopefully early next year- fingers crossed)
So while there is still tons to do in terms of DIY projects and stuff to get for the dresser wall, I am so happy with the way this side of the room has come together and I am perfectly happy with that as we get the rest done over time.
Thank you so much for following along even if my progress was slow and I had to put priorities elsewhere for a time. I would be so happy to have you follow along here on the blog and over on Instagram as the rest of this room comes together bit by bit. What do you think of our progress so far? Let me know in the comments! And be sure to head over to the One Room Challenge page to check out all of the participants beautiful room reveals. There is so much talent over there, and I am honored to have been a part of this wonderful event again!
