We did it! We finally did it. I have been window shopping (ha!) for new window shades since the day we moved into our home, but it was just one of those things that kept getting put on the back burner because there were so many other home updates we needed to put our budget towards. Well here we are, over a year later, and I am so excited to FINALLY share with you our new custom window shades from Select Blinds! They are practically perfect in every way, and our home suddenly feels so much more high end with window coverings that match our aesthetic and do this home justice.
Select Blinds was such a dream to work with! They have an incredible selection, and they make everything from measuring, ordering, and install so simple! You can browse their beautiful selection HERE.

The Process
First things first, order free samples!
Make a list of things you want in a window shade. Then sit down and browse through their website, adding samples of the ones you love to your cart. Select Blinds will send you up to 15 samples for free, and I highly recommend taking advantage of that! It is so hard to tell what a shade will truly look like in your home by just seeing it on a computer screen, but when you can actually hold the fabric in your hands and tape it up on your wall, you will be so much more confident and happier with your choice. I ordered quite a few samples of both Woven Wood Shades and Roman Shades because I was unsure which direction I ultimately wanted to go. I ended up doing both! I love that it mixes it up a little but still feels cohesive.
We ended up choosing:
Premier Modern Natural Wood Shades in the color Baton Rouge for the living room, kitchen, primary bedroom, and playroom.
Modern Roman Shades in the color Weathered Birch for Tom’s office and the guest room. (We kept the dining room and kids rooms as is with just curtains)
Measure windows
Once you make a decision on the style and color of shades you want, it is time to measure your windows! This might sound intimidating, but it really was not at all! Select Blinds provides very detailed measuring instructions on their website, and a handy printable worksheet for you to just plug all of the numbers into. You just have to decide if you want your shades to be inside mounted or outside mounted (mine are all inside), and then just follow the exact measuring instructions they provide for that type.
Decide on features & upgrades
Select Blinds offers many features and upgrades such as cordless lift, motorization, privacy liners, blackout liners, etc. We chose a cordless lift system on all of our window shades for safety purposed because we have little ones, and we added privacy liners to all of our shades in the main living areas and blackout liners in the bedrooms. The cordless lift is a breeze, and the privacy and blackout liners work perfectly. I absolutely love the light filtering effect of the privacy liners because we can close them in the afternoon when the sun is beating in and still have some light, and nobody outside can see in through the shades at night. The blackout liner is fantastic for bedrooms and I am thrilled to not be waking up at the crack of dawn with the sun pouring through the cracks in our old blinds anymore.
Place Your Order
Ordering is easy! You just choose your product and plug in your measurements, and all of the options are right there on the product page. Turnaround time was pretty quick for us and took just a couple of weeks for our custom shades to be made and shipped.
Easy Installation
When your order ships, Select Blinds sends you a shipping notification email with your installation instructions included in it. (They can also be found on their website). The directions are easy to understand and follow, and Tom was able to get all of our shades installed within a few days
