Holy Moly, week 4 means we are halfway to the finish line on this One Room Challenge! Is it possible to feel like you have done so much and hardly anything all at the same time? The reality is, I have been working on this space in every spare moment I have but it still feels like there is tons left to do. Most of the huge time consuming work is done aside from the built-in desk which we can hopefully get working on soon, but after that there are really just a few more small things to pull this room together and we should be golden.
What did we accomplish this week?
- Installed and painted board and batten
- Ordered chandelier! (I can’t wait to show it to you)
- Finalized my plans for the “built-in” desk
That is basically one and a half of the four things I set out to accomplish this week and one thing that wasn’t even on the list, so I’m just going to call it a win.
This was the week of the board and batten which has definitely been the most time consuming project so far, but it is (almost) completely finished and it is changing everything in this room. I could not be more in love!
I still need to add the ledge and decorative bead moulding to the top, but other than that it has all been built, caulked, and painted. Here are some photos of the process:
And a little peek at the (almost) finished product! Can you tell how much of a difference it makes already? This room feels so much warmer and cozier.
I chose to paint the board & batten Pure White by Sherwin Williams in a satin finish to match the rest of our trim. I shared a short step-by-step tutorial in story highlights over on my Instagram @stephanie.jane.cameron. Once I get this room finished I will add a more in depth tutorial here on the blog too, but my stories should be enough to get you started if you are thinking of attempting your own DIY wall treatment.
So what’s next?
My plans for the dining room this coming week are:
- Finish adding the decorative ledge to the board & batten
- Order desk supplies
- Hang curtains
- start purchasing decor
- find a dang china cabinet!!
(Yes, three of those things were on my list last week. Let’s hope they happen for reals this week.) Wish me luck!
As always, be sure you are following along over on Instagram @stephanie.jane.cameron and hop over to the One Room Challenge page to see the progress all of the other designers are making on their rooms. See you back here next week for another update and *hopefully* lots more progress!
